Rolling Ball Sculpture
I built this small kinetic ball sculpture mid-way through a very technically demanding semester as an outlet for some pent-up creative energy. The track is made of 14 AWG solid copper wire and supports 1/2" stainless steel ball bearings. To start, the ball drops down a track, loops a loop, whizzes around banked turns and ends in a sharp spiral. Finally, at the bottom of the track, it completes a mechanical feedback loop allowing it to enter a chamber and be fired by a sprung solenoid to the top to start again.№ 36/58
