During my sophomore year, my roommate Ram wanted to build an MP3 player to investigate custom filesystems. The URO agreed to fund the project, and the first MpX was produced. With this success, Ram asked me to teach a course on embedded systems with him, using the MpX as a prototype. The course was my first experience in teaching a class and in designing curriculum and led to more teaching experiences later in my college career. I also got an education in (bad) offshore manufacturing, the necessity of vetting suppliers, and how badly things can go when mixing one's professional and personal lives.
