Home Automation

Funded by the URO at CMU, my friend Andy Shen and I worked on building modules for automating a house. He worked primarily on using vision to track a house's occupants, while I was interested in automating mundane tasks around the house. After sketching a few ideas, I conquered a simple task I was not fond of performing. My bedroom windows at home faced the street, requiring me to adjust the pitch of the window blinds throughout the day. This project was challenging because I used only one CdS cell mounted in the window; despite that, I was able to infer night and day, and control the blinds based not only on the outside light levels but inside levels as well. Here's a link to our old project website.
